JBI Statistics (July 2019)
The return of crude bauxite third-party sales to the Asian market contributed to a 5.3% year-on-year increase in total bauxite production, which amounted to near 849kt in July. For the first seven months of the year, crude bauxite production totaled 5.76 million tonnes, exceeding the quantity from last year by almost 1 percent.
Crude bauxite output for the month was approximately 279kt, up 8.7% when compared with the corresponding month of 2018. However, for the first seven months of the year, output was down 10.3% to 1.83 million tonnes relative to the comparable period of 2018. Lower uptake of crude bauxite by China was the contributing factor for the shortfall.
In July, alumina production recorded a year-on-year increase of 5.6% to reach near 206kt, with increased output at Alpart and Windalco contributing to this positive outturn. Alumina production from January to July amounted to 1.47 million tonnes, an increase of 9.4% relative to the first seven months of 2018.
During the month, the alumina refineries operated at an average capacity utilization of 66%, up from the 62% recorded over the same period last year. Read more
